Gust was a member of Latrobe United Presbyterian Church. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by the Latrobe Borough Public Works Department. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Army in the European Theater, and participated in the Normandy invasion and battles throughout northern France, central Europe, the Rhineland and at Ardennes in the Battle of the Bulge, receiving the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in Europe. He was a member of the BPO Elks Lodge 907. American Legion Post 515 and VFW Post 3414.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Juanita (Fellers) College, on Nov. 6, 2015; three brothers, Joseph, Louis and Chester College; and six sisters, Anna College, Ida Dionisi, Amelia McDonald, Bertha McDonnell, Cecilia Woitkowiak and Mary Burkhart. Gust is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the John J. Lopatich Funeral Home Inc., Latrobe. Military services will be conducted at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral Home by the Latrobe-Derry Veterans Honor Guard. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Latrobe United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Donald Graff officiating. Interment will follow at Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
