Funeral services for James Ira Sandifer will be held Friday, November 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rush Chapel, Pineville with the Reverend Lloyd Whitman.

Interment will follow in the Bethel Cemetery, Colfax, Louisiana under the direction of Rush Funeral Home, Pineville.

James Ira Sandifer, age 76 of Dry Prong, entered eternal rest on Monday, November 16, 2015 at his residence.

James graduated from Ruston High School. In 1960, after a two-month courtship, he married his lifelong mate, Jane Clayton Sandifer on Christmas Day. Together, they raised five children.

During his employment years, he worked for Louisiana Public Broadcasting TV station in Monroe and with the Louisiana Employment Security Office. Later, he went to work for Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in enforcement and as a computer programmer, where he retired after 26 ½ years of employment. In his retirement years, through a tragedy of his own, he founded an organization called Common Sense Against Crime, where he served as Founder/President. Through those years, he published articles in many local papers including The Chronicle in Colfax, where he ran a weekly article called Common Sense Against Crime. He was involved in other various organizations throughout the State of Louisiana to include the Louisiana Republican Party and the Louisiana Pardon Board.

His most memorable and proudest experience was when he transported President Ronald Reagan from the Governor’s Office to the airport in Baton Rouge, La.

During his life, he was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors. He loved life and his family. His greatest joy was his grandchildren and great grandchildren, for which he had a nickname for each one. He will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Washington Sandifer and Mary Dick Sandifer; daughter, Louise Sandifer Lamkin and brother, Glenn Sandifer.

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 55 years, Jane Clayton Sandifer; daughters, Sheila Girlinghouse (Kevin) of Pineville and Melissa Ferrington of Dry Prong; sons, James W. Sandifer (Lisa) of Flora and William Roy Sandifer of Dry Prong; son-in-law, George Lamkin of Dry Prong; sister, Derenda Grubb (John) of Sulphur; brother, Ralph Sandifer (Donna) of Augusta, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Justin, Eric, Zachary, Crystal, Stephan, Lindsey, Janeha, Rocky, Logan and Amber; and fifteen great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Stephan Girlinghouse, Eric Sandifer, Logan Sandifer, Rocky Ferrington, Andy Southiseng and Kane Girlinghouse.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at Rush Funeral Home on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and on Friday, November 20, 2015 from 9 a.m. until time of service.
