Irene Kelly was born Dec. 25, 1916, to A. C. and Anna Marie (Forret) Smith of Van Meter. A 1935 graduate of Van Meter High School, she had been a resident of Winterset since 1965. She had previously resided in Norwalk. A housewife, Irene also had worked at the former Villa West Care Center in Winterset. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset and Farm Bureau.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by a son, John "Jack" Kelly of Des Moines; two daughters, Mary Kelly of Des Moines and Kathleen Marsh (husband Steve) of Earlham; four sisters, Alice Hazen of Winterset, Hazel Stewart of Earlham, Margaret Olson of Urbandale and Mary Ann Dawson of Dallas Center; and two grandchildren.
