Marcella Kathern "Kate" Stewart, 88, of Oakland, was welcomed into Heaven on Monday, August 6, 2012 at the home of her son, James. Born on 14 April 1914 in Vindex, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mabel Uphold Brown. She was a cashier at Browning's Foodland for over 30 years. Kate loved her children, her grandchildren, all of her family and God. She attended church regularly until she became too ill to do so. She always enjoyed shopping with her sisters, Caroline and Shirley until she could no longer go. She enjoyed her visits to her daughter's lake house where she would sit on the swing and watch the activity on the lake and, occasionally, a boat ride. She loved babysitting her grandsons Logan, now starting college, and Liam until she could no longer do it. She always kept close contact with her granddaugher Kim and grandson Kevin who lives close by and loved spending time with their children, Dylan, Kaitlyn, Jordyn and Brennen. She is survived by a son, James Stewart and his fiancee, Sandy Brantner; a daughter, Kathery Savage and husband George, of Huntingtown; four grandchildren, Jay Stewart, Michael Stewart, Kimberly Savage and Kevin Savage; seven gread grandchildren, Logan Stewart, Liam Stewart, Macklyn Stewart, Dylan Rayfield, Kaitlym Rayfield, Jordyn Rayfield and Brennen Savage; a special friend of 21 years, Russell Costello; two sisters, Caroline Mellinger and her husband Clarence and Shirley Brown and husband Billy, all of Oakland; and a brother, Peter Brown and wife Jannette of Aliquippa, Pa. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Albert Stewart, who died in 1981; a daughter, Sandra Darlene Stewart; two step-sons, Billy Kemp Stewart and Franklin Albert Stewart; three brothers and one sister. Friends will be received at the Burdock-Fredlock Funeral Home, P. A., Oakland on Wednesday, August 8 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. A funeral service will be held in the old Loch Lynn Church of God, 121 E. 1st Ave, Loch Lynn at 2 PM on Thursday with Rev. Ivan Anderson officiating. Interment will follow in IOOF Cemetery, Elk Garden, WV.
