OBITUARY
On Monday morning, August 21, 2006 in the midst of the hustle and bustle of Rex Hospital, the Lord whispered tenderly to Irene and said "Your labor on earth is finished," and quietly whisked her away.
Irene was born in Wendell, NC on February 8, 1931 to the late Deacon Macon and the late Lillie Parham. She joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at an early age. She received her former education at Carver Elementary in Wendell and James E. Shepard High School in Zebulon.
Irene married James Frank Freeman and relocated to Providence, RI; and to this union, three sons were born. She eventually moved back to Wendell and upon relocating, Irene reaffirmed her membership with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. After the death of her husband, she became a stay-at-home mom and later met and married Tommy Kearney.
She joined and worked tirelessly in many auxiliaries within the church; the Usher Board, Pastor's Aide committee, Trustee Deacon, Senior Choir and as a Missionary. Her favorite was the Senior Choir because music was her passion. She eventually accepted the office of president and served for seventeen years. Due to declining health, she resigned as president.
She was employed by Wake County Public School System for seventeen years.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories; her husband, Tommy Kearney;three sons; James Otis Freeman, Alfonso Angelo Freeman and Ray Anthony Freeman, three grand children, three great-grand children, one brother, seven sisters, two brothers-in-law, six sisters-in-law, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
