CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS BURK

C. C. Burk, only son of Dudley and Jane Stiger Burk, was born March 12, 1847, near Pleasant Home, Owen County, and departed this life September 2, 1947.

On February 1, 1894, he was united in marriage to Miss Annie Buchanan. To this union was born three children, two sons and a daughter. The oldest son, Jesse passed away in 1911.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Forest of Gallatin County, a daughter, Miss Ruth of Louisville, one grandson Joseph Burk, one sister, Mrs. Louise Arrasmith, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. Two sisters having preceeded him to the grave several years ago.

He moved to Gallatin County at the age of fourteen and had lived in the Drury's Chapel Community the remainder of his life except for a few years when he resided in Carroll County.

He was a devoted husband, father, and brother, a sincere friend, and a good neighbor. He enjoyed his friends and was always glad to have them visit him and to talk with them. He was held in high esteem by his friends. This was shown by the large number of people who visited him during his illness.

He was ill more than eight months but bore his suffering uncomplainingly. All that loving hands and medical skills could do was done but to no avail and he slipped quietly and peacefully away to that land where there is no suffering.

To the griefstricken wife and children, the grandson and sister, we extend our deepest sympathy and may God in his wisdom comfort their hearts and give them courage.

The funeral was held Friday at 2 p.m. by Rev. Robert Willett, pastor of the Carson Baptist Church at Carlton's Funeral Home. Burial was in Warsaw Cemetery with C. L. Carlton & Son in charge. The pallbearers were Hiram Reece, Herbert Hopkins, C. B. Cox, Clay Noel, Taylor Bethel, and R. B. Smith.
