Per the book Death Ride at Euclid Beach, pages 81 to 87, this individual first "died" while fishing near the mouth of the Rocky River. Several years later he appeared at the National Sporting Goods Show in Chicago. His appearance had changed which now included wearing an eye patch. He had lost his left eye to a malignant tumor. He also changed his name to John Johnson.

John Johnson was married, had adopted his wife's daughter, and they had one child together. He had no memory of his life as Larry Bader.

Dental and finger print records were compared of the two individuals. The conclusion was that Larry and John were the same individual.

Larry annulled his marriage to his first wife, Nancy Zimmer, and reconciled with Mary Lou Bader. Shortly after, the cancer had returned. Within a year, he was dead.

There was a funeral in Omaha for his family with Nancy Zimmer. The body was then sent to Akron for the final burial.
