The first Dison in our lineage that I've been able to find is William Isaac Dison (one record shows Isaac C. Dison). He was born in the late 1700's in England. He and his brother Jesse immigrated to North Carolina in 1810. About 1818, William married Mary Long and they lived in the Iredell County area of North Carolina. They were in Sevier County, Tennessee in the Smokey Mountains in 1830, and by this time, they had four sons, including William T. Dison. All of the boys were born in North Carolina.

The family moved to Alabama around 1833 to the Talladega/Clay County areas. Mary died around 1834, so Isaac left the four boys with their Aunt Gencie Long, and, along with his brother Jesse, headed for Texas. (Information from a Land grant in Shelby County, Texas in 1837, the 1840 Shelby County, Texas tax list, and a Certificate of Entrance into Texas from 1835 with the sponsor William H. Irion)

Isaac disappears from history after that. One family legend says that he made his fortune in oil. Some say he served in the Mexican War. A couple of sources say that he was killed by Indians. Whatever happened, he never made it back to Talladega County for his boys.

William T. Dison was born in October 1823 in Anson County, North Carolina. He married Jane Holland Johnson on August 27, 1846 in Alabama. Jane was born in 1824 in Tennessee to Garrett Johnson and Winnifred Pollard. She and William lived around the Hatchet Creek area of Clay County, Alabama and raised ten children, one of whom was William Tipton Dison (sometimes seen as William Tipton Donalu or Donalou Dison). Jane died around 1867 in Alabama and was buried in Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Clay County, Alabama. Some records show that William married twice more after that. He died before 1910 and was buried in Wilkes Family Cemetery, Talladega, Talladega County, Alabama. According to a Census record, he was a miller and a farmer. (Information from the 1850 and 1860 Talladega County, Alabama Census; 1870 and 1880 Clay County, Alabama Census; and 1900 Talladega County, Alabama Census)
