Pauline (Polly) Shumway Jacobsen passed away on November 16, 2015 in Mesquite, Nevada at the age of 88.

Pauline was born in Lyons, Kansas, to Floyd William and Ella Frieda Michaelis Shumway. When she was three, the family home was destroyed by fire and the family moved to Salt Lake City and later to Layton, Utah.

After graduating from Davis High School, she went to work as a secretary at Hill Air Force Base.

In 1946, she met and married Robert (Bob) Stevenson and gave birth to her daughter in 1947. Following the accidental death of her husband in 1948, she returned to work at Hill Air Force Base. In 1951 she met and married Eugene (Jake) Jacobsen.

Pauline and Gene moved to Ogden, Utah where he managed the family gas station, and she continued her career at Hill Air Force Base. During that career which lasted nearly 40 years, she advanced from secretary to unit chief. As an item manager she supported the F-16 fighter jet. She was able to meet the F-16 flying squadron who presented her with an autographed photo showing their planes in formation. She was also presented with several outstanding performance awards.

In 1972, the family moved back to Layton. Following Jake’s serious illness in 1999, Pauline and Jake moved to Mesquite, Nevada, where she became a member of the “Desert Dames” and “The Red Hats”.

Pauline was wonderful to be around. She was always positive. She was the life of any party, actually forcing people to have fun. She loved being outdoors, especially fishing, and was always thrilled when she spotted an animal or bird. She loved sewing, and gardening, and was an excellent cook.

Pauline is survived by her husband of 63 years, Eugene Jacobsen; children: Rebecca "Becky" (Peter) Puglia, Scott Jacobsen, and Kent (Robyn) Jacobsen; several nieces and nephews; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Bonnie Evenson and Twyla Mae Peters; three brothers: Eldon Shumway, William (Bill) Shumway and Donald Shumway; son, Mark Eugene Jacobsen; and stepson, Michael Jacobsen.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 9 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 8 to 9 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
