She was born August 26, 1938, in Surry County, to Connard Ervin and Flora Esther Hazelwood Butcher.
Shirley attended Reidsville Freewill Baptist Church, and loved singing Gospel music. She enjoyed raising her children, loved being around her grandbabies, and family gatherings always brought a smile to her face. Her greatest pastimes were traveling, site seeing, and working crossword puzzles, being a homemaker, and raising tobacco.
A 2:00 p.m. funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church, Zephyr Road, Dobson N.C., with Elder Joey Jenkins and Rev. Jimmy Woods officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husbands: Jesse Wayne Tilley, and Billy Ray Bowman; a brother: Larry Woodrow Butcher; 2 sisters: Jewel Butcher, and Thelma Butcher.
She is survived by 5 children: Esther Lawrence and husband Willis of Brown Summit, Linda Hopkins and husband Terry of Reidsville, Sandra Smith of Eden, Justin Tilley and wife Tina, and Curtis Tilley and wife Karen all of Reidsville; 8 grandchildren: Gary, Tiffany, Ross, Connie, Kyle, Jessica, Amy, and Faith; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Eunice Gilley, Billie Grose, both of Dobson, and Dorothy Lewellyn; brother: Connard Junior Butcher of Reidsville; special friend and caregiver: Gloria, and Milton Cox; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday night, November 20, 2015 at Reidsville Freewill Baptist Church, Miller's Chapel Road, Reidsville, and other times at her son Justin Tilley's home.
Memorials may be made to Little Vine Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Zephyr Road, Dobson NC, 27017.
