Sioux City - Evelyn M. Plueger, 88, of Sioux City died Sunday, May 18, 2014, at a local nursing home.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riverside United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Chris Frank officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today at Berkemier Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Evelyn was born on Feb. 27, 1926, in Sioux City, the daughter of Ted and Lucille (Klucking) Colt. She attended school in Sioux City, graduating from Central High School.

Evelyn married Lester H. Plueger on April 6, 1946. The couple made their home in Sioux City. Evelyn worked as a custodian for the Sioux City School District for many years. Lester died on June 24, 1983.

Evelyn was an active member of Riverside United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for more than 20 years, sang in the choir and taught Bible School. She was a member of the musical groups, the Lost Cords, the Treble Cliff Singers and the Sweet Adeline's. She enjoyed gardening and her flower garden, western square dances and bowled for several years. Evelyn also liked to sew. She sewed horse blankets for Park Jefferson's winning horses.

She is survived by four sons, Richard and Connie Plueger of Sioux City, Michael and Linda Plueger of Ogden, Iowa, Dar Plueger of Jefferson, S.D., and Edward and Marvene Plueger of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren, Dawn Gustavson, Hollie Korthals, Scott Mills, Chris Mills, Jason Plueger, Jamie West, Julie Lancaster, Sarah Fairbanks, Jessie Bergin, Angie Plueger, Melissa Plueger, Amy Corkin, Tim Oban and Tina Hatten; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester; brother, Micky Colt; and sister, Laverne Suffield.
