Susan Solomon was the third of 6 children born to Noah Lewis Solomon and Lucinda J. Catlin Solomon. She wa born in Indiana, but her family was living in Athens, Missouri in 1882 when she met and married David Marshall Appier. David and Susan had 8 children: Ivan Sylvester Appier who died before his 18th birthday soon after enlisting in the Army, Earl Granville Appier who died when 13 months old, Zenora Dean Appier, Retta May Appier, Zella Hester Appier, Oren David Appier, John Louis Appier and William Leonard Appier. They raised their family on the farm in Oklahoma where they lived until the children were mature, after which they moved to Los Angeles, California where they spent the remainder of their lives. Susan lived for 18 years after her husband died.
