BEALL

Walter Dent Beall, Sr. settled in Nolan County in 1879 near the post office of Dora, which was named for his first granddaughter, Dora Collins.

He was born Aug. 17, 1828, in Georgia, married to Sarah C. Watson (b. 1833 in Ala.) in Missouri February 14, 1850. They moved to Tarrant County, Texas near Johnson Station in 1856; moved to California where they lived until 1861. He enlisted in the Confederate Army under Brigadier General Green, serving four years. After the war, they teturned to Tarrant County, Texas, and again engaged in farming until 1879 when they sold their land and moved to Nolan County, Texas.

Walter Dent and Sarah Beall had three children: James Henry b. June 18, 1858; Warren Walter b. April 18, 1860 (both born in El Monte, Los Angeles County, California); and Catherine (Katie) b. Oct. 30, 1866, in Tarrant County, Texas. The two sons taught school in Nolan County, Texas, reading law in their spare time. In 1881, he and his two sons organized the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. They were Masons and members of the Independent Order of Oddfellows.

His wife died Nov. 7, 1887, and in the early 1890's, he retired and moved to Sweetwater where he lived until his death in 1911.

James Henry Beall, Sr. was admitted to the Bar in 1884 and shortly thereafter was elected County Judge of Nolan County, Texas. In 1895 he was elected to the State Legislature. He married Cornelia Josephine Crissman (b. Aug 12, 1863, Ala.) December 30, 1880 in Dallas, Texas. The children were:

* Genoa (b. May 27, 1884, d. Oct. 28, 1914) married Walter Hubert Fitzgerald.

* Florence (b. Oct. 10, 1888, d. Sept. 12, 1968) married Lester Rathburn May 20, 1910.

* Herbert Nolan (b. 1893, d. 1945) married 1912 to Pearl Coon.

His first wife died in 1894 and he married Jennie George (b. Feb. 26, 1870) in 1895. Children of this marriage were:

* James Henry, Jr. (b. July 18, 1896, d. July 9, 1956) married Aug. 15, 1918 Minnie Lee Aldridge.

* Aileen (b. Sep. 8, 1901, d. Nov. 22, 1974) married June 15, 1920 William H. Whaley.

* George Dent (b. July 30, 1903, d. Jan 3, 1982) married June 3, 1926, Rozelle Brand.

* Bessie (b. May 12, 1905) married Sept. 10, 1926, Ernest Wright.

James Henry Beall, Sr. died in 1935 and his second wife died in 1957.

Warren W. Beall was admitted to the Bar in 1887, and he began his practice of law in Roby, Fisher County, Texas. In 1888 he was elected County Attorney of Fisher County. In 1890 he was elected District Attorney of the 30th Judicial District. In 1896 he moved to Sweetwater, Texas, where he and his brother established the firm of Beall and Beall, attorneys. In 1912, Judge Beall was elected District Judge of the 32nd Judicial District. He served two terms of four years each, and was again in the law firm of Beall, Beall and Beall (James Henry, Jr. had joined the firm by this time). He practiced law until his death Sept. 12, 1932.

He married Janie Floyd (b. Apr 1, 1861, Calhoun Co. Ark.) Nov. 16, 1881 in Tarrant County, Texas. Children of this marriage were:

* Walter Dent, Jr. (b. June 9, 1883, d. Feb. 27, 1950) married Feb. 25, 1906 Luna Ethel Starr.

* Janie Maye (b. Mar. 1, 1885, d. June 2, 1965) married June 6, 1904 Raymond Fitzgerald.

* Warren Floyd (b. Mar. 25, 1887, d. Jan 9, 1945) married Apr. 26, 1911, Ophelia Mary Arnett.

* Katherine Lenora (Kate) (b.Nov. 6, 1891, d. Mar. 26, 1971) married Aug. 3, 1912, Willis M. Barbee.

His first wife died Jan. 8, 1899, and in 1900 he married Nannie Buchanan (b. Aug. 23, 1871) in Snyder, Texas. Children of this marriage were:

* Juanita Laville (b. June 25, 1901) married Dec. 20, 1920, P. G. Dabney.

* Claude Buchanan (b. Aug. 31, 1903, d. Mar 28, 1972) married March 23, 1925 Wanda Dragoo.

George Graham (b. Apr. 10, 1908, d. Sep. 13, 1928).

W. W. Beall's second wife died Sept. 24, 1924.

Katherine (Katie) Beall married E. L. Collins in 1884. They lived in Dora, Nolan County, Texas, at the time of their marriage. They later moved to Merkel, Texas, and from there they moved to Pecos, Texas, where they lived until death. He died in 1928 and she died in 1946. Their children were: Dora, Lewis, Sadie, Earl, Nannie Mae and Warren.

Mrs. Juanita Beall Dabney of San Angelo, Texas (daughter of W. W. Beall) and Bessie Wright of Abilene, Texas (daughter of J. H. Beall, Sr.) are the only living children of this Beall family.
