Ann Harris, 56, of Brownsville, died Tuesday at her residence.
.
A Brownsville native, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Bynum M. Works and Mrs. Anna-lee Works. She was educated in the Brownsville public schools and received her bachelors and masters degrees in microbiology from the University of Texas. She was a certified educator in the field of biology; a registered Radiologic Technologist and a Registered Medical Laboratory Technician. She worked several years in the Veterans Administration Hospital in McKinney, in Freeport, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harligen and at Mercy Hospital in Brownsville.

Also, she had been a teacher with the Brownsville School District since 1965 and a biology teacher at Homer Hanna High School since 1977. She was current director of Pan American Round Table II, a member of the Gladys Porter Zoo Docents and avid supporter of the Valley Zoological Society.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ensign Harley Harris, a naval flier who was killed in combat in the Korean War in 1950.

Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Annalee Works of Brownsville; two brothers, Dr. Lee Works of Brownsville and Dr. Mac Works of San Antonio, several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ed. Robertson and Rev. J. Rufus Stewart officiating. Her body will be cremated under the direction of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

Friends of the family are making memorial donations to the First Presbyterian Church, The American Cancer Society or to their favorite charity.
