RICHMOND - Dorothy Anne Cox Clare, 82, of Richmond, Va., passed away peacefully on November 13, 2015. Born and raised in Manchester, GA, she attended LaGrange College and graduated from Georgia State College for Women. Dot was an avid reader, gardener and bridge player until recent years. She was a talented calligrapher and at cross stitch, making many gifts for family and friends. A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, she was active for many years in UMW. Dot was a proud member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, Chancellor Wythe Chapter and was a Past Chapter Regent of the Basking Ridge Chapter in New Jersey. Her husband's career took the family to Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia and New Jersey. With her warm smile, she made many friends along the way. A gracious hostess, she enjoyed entertaining and as often as possible. Dot resided in Williamsburg, Va. until the last year. She is predeceased by her parents, Samuel Hilary Cox and Eva Lucille Mathis Cox and her sister Virginia Louise Cox Swygert. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Sam R. Clare of Richmond; devoted daughter, Hilary R. Clare of Midlothian, VA; son Mark S. Clare; sister Sammye Cox Porter (Steve) of Shiloh, GA; nephew, Sam Z. Swygert (Elaine) of Woodbury, GA, and niece, Elizabeth Clare Weatherman (Willie) of Kings Mountain, NC; and many cousins and friends. She will be greatly missed and remembered by all who knew her. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 12 noon at Bliley's - Central, 3801 Augusta Avenue. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Hospital or The Alzheimer's Association.
