KIA in the Korean Conflict

James Henry Cordova was born April 23, 1928, in Vail, Colorado, to Celestino and Refugio Romero Cordova. He was the fourth son in a family of seven born to the couple. His mother died when James was only two years old and his father died of pneumonia when James was 18 years old. His older brother, Sgt Jose David Cordova served in the Army in WWII and Korea.

James enlisted in the USMC December 29, 1948. His rank was Private First Class although his memorial stone says Corporal. He was interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery May 15, 1951.

Private First Class Cordova was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on September 20, 1950. Private First Class Cordova was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
