Joseph T. Neal Jr., 83, of Madison, died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

He was born May 26, 1932, in Madison, to Joseph T. Sr. and Nancy Oder Neal. He served in the Army from December 1953 to December 1955, following the Korean Conflict. Early in life he worked in construction. He worked as a welder for Rotary Lift in Madison for 38 years, from 1956 to 1994. He was a member of Hanover Baptist Church and Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion. He was a former member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing and dancing with his wife on Friday nights at the Madison Senior Center.

He is survived by his wife, Georgene Higgins Neal, whom he married Dec. 18, 2004; one sister, Glenna Sauley of Madison; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.?

He was preceded in death by one step daughter, Beth Craig Schmidt; his parents; and one brother, James R. Young Sr.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Lytle Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.

Friends may call at funeral home Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. until the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the American Cancer Society.
