Frederick E. Cronk, age 88 of Cheboygan passed away Monday, January 31, 2011 at Otsego memorial Hospital.
He was born July 23, 1922 in Cheboygan to Aloysious S. and Florence M. (Moody) Cronk. In 1942, Fred married Leona Samp who preceded him in death on June 6, 1967. In October of 1967, Fred married Carolyn Zaruba. Fred served his country honorably with the U.S. Army during WWII and also worked for the C.I.A. for more than 20 years. He was a Tool & Die maker for General Motors in Flint for 18 years and was a Die Leader, training apprentices. He was a life member of both the Cheboygan Eagles and the American Legion in grand Blanc. Fred enjoyed puttering around his home, working in his machine shop, camping, hunting, fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his three children Michael (Jeannie) Cronk of Cheboygan, Patrick J. Cronk of Cheboygan and Buffy (Scott) Pfeiffer of Burton, MI, one step daughter, Kathy Zaruba, four grandchildren, Melissa Newman, Karen (David) Misale and Alyson and Abbigale Pfeiffer, two great grandchildren, Mason and Vance Misale and two step grandchildren, Carmen and Douglas Nichols, two sisters, Aurlie White of Cheboygan and Mae Sechler of Phoenix, AZ and one brother, Gale (Gayle) Cronk of Fenton, MI and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Leona, his siblings, James, Carl, Stewart, Allan, Rannie, Dean, Kenneth, Donald, Annabelle Domke, Ruth Cronk, twins, Ransford and Ruth Ann and Gabriel Cronk and two step-sons, Mike Zaruba and Chris Zaruba.
A funeral service was held on Monday, February 7, 2011 at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home. The Rev. Bill McClure officiated.
