Sam was born on December 10, 1924 in Marlin, TX to Elizha and Verdia (Winfield) Davis. He accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age. He was a member of Christian Family Center Church, later renamed Heaven’s View Christian Family Fellowship Church. He married Myra Jean Britt February 9, 1952 in Peoria. To their union five sons were born, Dennis, Eric, Samuel, Jay and Breelund. His wife, Myra Davis, preceded him in death on August 8, 1995.
Sam last worked at District 150 for 29 most of those years working as a custodian at Washington Gifted Middle School. He retired in 1985. He had also worked in construction for Noah Herman & Sons for many years.
Sam leaves to cherish his most precious memories three sons, Samuel K. Davis of Atlanta, GA, Jay B. Davis and Breelund D. Davis, Sr., both of Peoria; two brothers, William “Billy” Porter and Horace “Dell” Porter both of Peoria; one sister, Charlene Taylor of Dallas, TX; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; his best friend Donny Glover of Missouri; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends who will miss him dearly. He is also preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Eric and Dennis Davis; five sisters and three brothers.
Sam was a loving husband, father and grandfather who never met a stranger. He always had a joke or a story to tell, usually more than once. He loved to bar-be-que and throw fish frys.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Heaven’s View Christian Fellowship with a visitation one hour prior to the service beginning at 9 AM. Pastor Tony Pierce will officiate. Sam will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery. Simons Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at simonsmortuary.com.
