The obituary for Mrs. Amanda M. Bell, widow of Dr. Marshal S.(sic) Bell, noted that she was "twice married," first to James Adams of Davidson, then to Dr. Bell. It notes that along with her second marriage "...came the responsibility of four young step-children, now grown into noble, useful manhood and womanhood...." Her devotion to the Bible and her church paper, "The Presbyterian Standard", which she enjoyed reading, was mentioned, along with her appreciation of visits from her pastor after she could no longer attend worship services.
