Billy Burr Hollingshead graduated from Baird HS and was attending North Texas State College. After Pearl Harbor, he enlisted as an aviation cadet. He was assigned to 388th Bomber Squadron, 312th Bomber Group flying B-24s and P-40s. He was shot down in June 1944. His 37th mission from Nadzab Airfield. His A-20 airplane, the Pistol Packing Mama disappeared in heavy weather. He was declared KIA. His airplane and remains were found May 15, 1973 on a mountain in New Guinea. His remains were returned for burial.
