Orrin Bowen, a lifelong resident of the Sample Hill district, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mont Lake, on Sunday afternoon, of broncho-pneumonia. He was sick only a short time.
Mr. Bowen was born in Randolph, only a short distance from the place where has lived the most of his life and not far from the home in which he ended his days. He was son of Darius Bowen, one of the first settlers in the town of Randolph, and a man who has left the impress of his sturdy characteristics upon several generations.
Orrin Bowen was born in May 18, 1827. He was a carpenter and a farmer by occupation, and always a gentleman and a considerate friend under every circumstance, to all within the sphere of his acquaintanceship.
A gentleman who has known Orrin Bowen for more than fifty years remarked to the Register this week that it probably could as truthfully be said of Mr. Bowen as of any person who ever lived, that he never wronged a single soul. He was a man who bore the highest reputation and always lived up to the best standards of physical and moral conduct.
Mr. Bowen was a widower. He is survived by one son, Almon D. Bowen, and one daughter, Mrs. Allie Bowen, wife of Mont Lake, both of whom reside in Randolph.
The funeral was attended Tuesday afternoon and the mortal remains of this fine old gentleman were laid at rest in the Sample Hill cemetery, not far from the farm where he spent a long, happy and useful life.
