Debra Lynn Newberry, 47, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015.

A resident of Etowah, she spent her last 15 years taking care of the elderly at Life Care, National Health Center, Morning Pointe, and Wellington Place with a specialization in Alzheimer and dementia patients. Debra was a member of Christ Community Church of Athens. She was a lover of the outdoors and spent her free time hiking and swimming in the mountains with her friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her father, Glen Newberry; and a brother, Tom Newberry.

She is survived by her mother, Colleen Newberry of Etowah; and two sisters, Judy Baker and husband, David, of Athens and Jan Volk and husband, John, of Bryan, Texas.

She spent the last 22 years dedicated to her three children, Logan Morris of Etowah, Hunter Morris of New London, Conn., and Gretchen Morris of Etowah.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Etowah.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home chapel, prior to the service.

Interment will be on Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. in New Bethel Cemetery in Etowah.

Pastor Carlos Peterson will conduct the services.

The family is accepting monetary donations instead of flowers.

Serenity Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Etowah is in charge of arrangements.
