He was a retired sawmill worker, a native of Madison County, and had lived in Buncombe County for 35 years.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Julian Banks, Mrs. Cari Rich, and Mrs. C. R. Blankenship; one son, James Brown; four sisters, Mrs. Jo Alice Banks, Mrs. Mary Cole, Mrs. Kitty Corn, and Mrs. Leona Candler; three brothers, Frank, Bill and Nat Brown; 21 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
