Kristi Lynn Karr-Morgan

Kristi Lynn Karr-Morgan of rural Emporia died Sunday, August 21, 1011, at her home. She was 51.

Mrs. Karr-Morgan began teaching for the Emporia School District N. 253, and later the Emporia Learning Center. She then taught English and the Credit Recovery Program at Northern Heights High School in Allen. In 2001 she received the Joseph B. Whitehead Educator of Distinction Award.

From 1996 to 2008 she was the cross country caoch at Northern Heights High School. In that time she coached the girls cross country team to three state championships and the boys team to one state championship. In 2000, she was named the Kansas Coaches Association Boys Cross Country Coach of the Year.

The daughter of Robert Ira and Elaine Le Hartenbower Karr, she was born on July 13, 1960, in Emporia. She graduated from Emporia State University with a B.A. in English in 1988.

She is survived by two sons Matthew Watt of Finland and Patrick Watt of Emporia; daughter Sarah Lockyear of Topeka; her parents Robert and Elaine Karr of Emporia; and brother Jon Karr of Emporia.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Orren and Kathleen Karr and Leone and Jerry Giles Hartenbower.

The funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Emporia Presbyterian Church West Campus. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Brenda Ulrich of the Americus Presbyterian. Burial will be conducted at Rosean Cemetery north of Emporia.
