JANESVILLE— Frances A. Black, 85, a longtime Janesville resident, passed away Tuesday afternoon at Our House Memory Care, where she most recently resided. Frances was also ably supported by HospiceCare, Inc. in her final days. She was born March 30, 1921, in Whitewater, WI, the daughter of the late Adolph & Emilie Arnold. She was a graduate of Whitewater State Teachers College (UW-Whitewater) in 1941. She was a teacher at Stevens Point Area Senior High School, and then taught at Janesville Parker High School, spending over 20 years in the teaching profession. Between teaching assignments, she had been a secretary at the Pillsbury Company in Minneapolis, MN, and had worked at the Parker Pen Co., where she met her future husband. She married James N. Black in 1949 in St. Petersburg, FL. He preceded her in death on March 4, 1987. She was a longtime member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church. Frances is survived by her son, Gregory (Susan) Black of Mequon, WI; her stepdaughter, Merle Jean Towne of Crystal Lake, IL; her 2 grandsons, Ryan and Aaron Black; and by several stepgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Michael Black; 3 sisters: Mildred Erdman, Margaret Schwimmer and Florence Higgins; and by a brother, Carl Arnold. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2006, at the WHITCOMB-LYNCH-ALBRECHT FUNERAL HOME, JANESVILLE, 15 N. Jackson St., with Rev. James L. Hendrikson officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services at the FUNERAL HOME . Memorials in her name may be made to St. Paul 's Evangelical Lutheran Church , 210 S. Ringold Ave. , Janesville .
