Johnnie Wood passed from this life on November 14, 2015. Mr. Wood was born December 4, 1931, in Calhoun City, MS, to Herman and Jessie Wood. After high school, he proudly and honorably served his county during the Korean War on the naval destroyer U.S.S. Monssen and upon discharge moved with his beloved wife Carrie to Jackson, MS.

Mr. Wood attended Hinds Junior College in Raymond, MS, studying Refrigeration and Electricity Theory while working full time at Continental Can Company and working part time at the College – many nights with only four hours of sleep. He soon started his own business from which formally retired on December 31, 2014. He held a Master License in Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning and was a Master Electrician.

He was self-made and fiercely dependant attributes that sustained him throughout his life. He attended Truitt Memorial Church in Pearl, MS and was a 33rd Degree Freemason.

Mr. Wood was unshakeable in his faith, his devotion to his family and the unswerving belief in and the betterment of his fellowman. Throughout his career, he employed hundreds of men, women and minorities. Though a businessman, Johnnie Wood "wore life like a loose garment". He was eternally optimistic and always looking for the best in those around him.

He is survived by his wife, Carrie Wood; sons Craig Wood, Mike Wood and Jim Null (Mischelle); daughters Kathy Wood DuVall and Sheri Wood Albert (Dr. Michael Albert) all of Brandon; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5:00-8:00pm, Monday, November 16, 2015 at Baldwin-Lee Funeral Home in Pearl. Funeral services are 10:00am, Tuesday, November 17, 2015 in the funeral home chapel with interment in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

The Wood family would like to thank the ICU Nursing Staff at Merit Health Rankin, Dr. David Westbrook, Dr. Bill Moore and Dr. Galen Poole for their exceptional care and compassion.
