Funeral Services for S. Dakotan Held Thursday

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the Lutheran church for the late William Solberg, who came here from Watertown, S.D. a few weeks ago to attend the funeral of his mother-in-law, the late Mrs. Ingersoll.

Mr. Solberg had suffered for some time with Bright's Disease and had been in a hospital at Watertown receiving treatment. He had improved somewhat and when Mrs. Ingersoll died, about the middle of February, he came here with his wife and children to attend the funeral. While a guest at the home of his brother-in-law , W. S. Lowe, he became worse and despite the best efforts of his physician and nurses, continued to fail until death relieved his suffering Monday, March 9th.

The services Thursday were conducted by Rev. H. E. Everson, and a ladies chorus, comprised of members of the Lutheran choir, rendering the musical numbers. Burial was made in the Slayton Cemetery and six boyhood friends carried the remains of their old pal to the final resting place. Performing the last service were Dick Hindman, Joe Barthen, and John Fox, all of Watertown, Gilbert Nelson, Alfred Russell, and Clyde Riley, all of Summit, S.D.

William Oscar Solberg was born October 21, 1902, at Summit, S.D. He was married May 12, 1926 to Miss Hazel Ingersoll in this city with the Rev. R. M. Vordale, pastor of the Lutheran church, performing the ceremony.

Mr. and Mrs. Solberg went to Detroit Mich. where he was employed in the Dodge Motor plant for several months, after which they located in Watertown, S.D. and for fourteen years was employed in the automobile business in that city. He then went into business for himself and operated a starter and generator exchange shop in Watertown, until his health began to fail last fall.

He is survived by his widow and four children, Beverly Ann, Elizabeth Jetta, William Stewart, and Robert Alvin. He is also survived by his father, Iver Solberg, of Shaunavon, Sask, Canada, seven sisters and three brothers. The sisters are Mrs. Fred Williams of Oklahoma, Mrs. Charles Tenney of Vienna, S.D., Mrs. Sim Beedle of Saskatchawan, Canada, Mrs. D. W. Steele of Watertown, S.D., Mrs. C. J. Strike of Boise, Idaho, Mrs. Joe Lastrico of Clear Lake, S.D., Mrs. L. A. Dykstra of Grand Junction, Colo. The brothers are Martin, of Watertown, Ike, of Summit, and Alvin, Rapid City, S.D. He was preceded in death by his mother and one brother.

Attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Steele of Watertown, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lastrico of Clear Lake, S.D., Mr. and Mrs. Martin Solberg of Watertown, Mr. and Mrs. Ike Solberg, Mr. and Mrs. P. G. Thompson, Oscar and Axel Anderson and Earl Fenner, all of Summit, S.D., F. E. Cook, Watertown, Mr. and Mrs. L. M.
