Mr. Tanner was born in Florence County, a son of the late Uly Benjamin Tanner and Grace Lucille Eaddy Tanner Baxley. He was a graduate of Indiantown High School. He retired from the SC Army National Guard after 42 years of service, and was a member of American Legion Post #84. He was a member of Indiantown Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was War Chief of Chaloklowa Chickasaw Indian Tribe.
He was predeceased by a sister Winnie Rogers Snowden and a brother Hermon M. Tanner.
