Alton Ray Ayscue, 65, of Route 5, Box 7, died Thursday morning, Feb. 3, 2000, in his home.

A native of Perquimans County, he was the husband of Minnie Marie Elliott ``Miss Marie'' Ayscue and the son of Irma Bagley Ayscue of Hertford and the late Joseph R. Ayscue. He retired from the Norfolk Ford Assembly Plant, was co-founder of Stepping Stones and Beacon Academy and the secretary/treasurer of Stepping Stones of the Albemarle Inc. He was an Army veteran and was a Chesapeake Recreation Department coach for 13 years.

Besides his wife and mother, survivors include a daughter, Kathy L. Wolf of Hertford; a son, Kevin W. Ayscue of Chesapeake; three sisters, Sally Mae Lane and Mildred Bundy, both of Hertford and Ruth Benton of Portsmouth; three brothers, John D. Ayscue of Hertford, George Ayscue of Goldsboro, N.C., and J.R. Ayscue of San Antonio, Texas; and three grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Angela Karen Ayscue and a brother, Joseph Ayscue.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Swindell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gene Boyce officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach. The family will receive friends at the home.
