During the war, Ed served as a gunner with the 17th Canadian Field Regiment and saw action in Italy and Belgium.

He also participated in the liberation of Holland for which he received a medal from the Dutch government on the 50th anniversary of that victory.

Peacefully with his family by his side at John Joseph Place in Owen Sound on Sunday August 10, 2008. In his 85th year, H. Edwin Ashley, beloved husband of his late wife Joyce Ashley (nee Taylor).

Ed will be remembered as a foster parent to many children. He worked at the Post Office for more than 30 years.
