Our angel mother, grandmother, and friend, Sarah Loraine Wasden Monroe, 104, passed away peacefully at her home in Scipio on November 13, 2015. Her loving family had been in and out for several days, enjoying one last visit with grandma!

Loraine was born December 24, 1910 in Holden to Carl William Wasden and Ida Bevan Johnson. She was raised in Scipio and was the oldest of ten children.

Loraine married the love of her life, Merlin Monroe, on May 9, 1930. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. They were blessed with four children: Juanna, Vernon, Ione, and Victor.

Loraine lived a long, full life. Her love of music started at a young age, singing with her family, then at weddings, funerals, church, and community activities. She was active in DUP and Cowbelles for many years. She loved quilting, and shared hundreds with friends and family, and donated many to charity. She and Merlin enjoyed traveling with friends all over the world.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and had a deep, abiding love for her Savior.

Loraine was so incredibly loving, kind, and generous. Her special spirit will be missed, but we are comforted knowing what a joyous reunion there was in Heaven when she arrived.

Loraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Merlin Monroe; daughter, Ione Monroe; son-in-law, Blaine Davis; grandson, Brad Davis; a great-grandson, and two great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, and six brothers. She is survived by her youngest brother, Bruce Wasden; her children, Juanna Davis; Taylorsville; Vernon and Evelyn Monroe, Scipio; and Victor and Sandy Monroe, Scipio; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great-grandchildren, and six on the way.

Her funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 in the Scipio Ward Chapel. A viewing will be held that morning from 9:30 to 10:30 and Monday, November 16, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Interment will be in the Scipio Cemetery.
