"William A. Hawthorne, a pioneer citizen of California and Nevada, was killed on August 6, 1904, by a falling scaffold placed by contractors outside the Grand Hotel in San Francisco. He was 81 years and 23 days old at the time of his death. He was buried in a now unmarked grave beside his wife in the Lone Mountain Cemetery..." (in Carson City)
