She was born on February 8, 1920 to Arcine and Helen (Meisner) Letourneau in Scanlon, Minnesota. She attended elementary school in Scanlon and graduated from Cloquet High School. Following graduation Lorraine worked in Cloquet’s original Ben Franklin and was a valued farm hand to her step father Gust Hostman. She met Bill (Wilfred) Allen in Duluth while Bill was serving in the Army securing the High Bridge and Harbor site. They married on October 20, 1945 and settled on the homestead on Washington Ave. Lorraine later became the acclaimed Tupperware Lady in our region, adding tremendous spice to the demonstration parties. The shining moment in Lorraine’s life was receiving her AA degree from FDLCC in May on 1992. Graduating with Honors at age 72 she presented the keynote speech at the graduation ceremony.
While the tangible aspects of Lorraine’s life are so very important the intangible aspects are who Lorraine was. This remarkable lady had a fortress of inner strength and courage to support in dealing with her life struggles, from devastating childhood illnesses to coping with being a widowed Mother and raising three young daughters. She had a deep wellspring of abiding faith to draw upon and freely shared that with her Bethel Lutheran family her entire life. Lorraine touched many in her life journey sharing her beautiful vocal gift, her artistic talents, her infectious sense of humor and wisdom. She offered the joy of living to everyone who had the privilege of calling her Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother and friend. Her Phi Theta Kappa award stated that she then had started a journey of lifelong learning; Lorraine had done that her entire life.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her grandparents Edward and Julia Meisner, mother Helen Hostman, step-father Gust Hostman, husband Wilfred John Allen, and grandson Steven Clemens.
She is survived by daughters: Helen (Larry) Williams, Dawn (Steven) Eller and Gussie (Van) Carter; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.
Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cloquet. (This elegy offered by her daughter, Dawn Marie)
