Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Maddux-Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel R. Swartz officiating.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.
A native of Hindsville, Ark., she was born Oct. 30, 1919, the daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Stella Woods Shipley.
She taught home economics and other subjects in Lexington and Christian County.
At Christian County High School, she served as a high school guidance counselor for many years.
She had previously worked with NYA and the Farm Security Administration in Arkansas and Louisiana.
She was a World War II veteran, having served in the Navy Reserve (WAVE) from 1943 until she was discharged in 1950.
She retired from counseling in 1985 and operated U-Pick Berry until 1999.
She was a member of the Locust Grove Homemakers, served as director of Pennyrile Citizens Bank, where she was secretary of the board and worked with Pennyrile Christian Community.
In addition, she was a member of the Retired Teachers of Christian County and Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Delta Pi honor societies. She was also a volunteer for the Widowed Persons Service and was a member of Herndon United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of Nancy Fentress United Methodist Women,
Her husband, Harry M. Young Jr., a pioneer in no tillage farming and author of a book of the same name, died in 1988.
Survivors include her sons, John Shipley Young, Herndon, and Harry Major Young, Chicago; a daughter, Jean Marie Delashmit, Atlanta; her sisters, Marjorie Haynes, Azel, Texas, and Orlena Pickens, Lexington; 13 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
