Edward O. Whitfield, 88, Alumni Avenue, died at 2:54 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Gateway Medical Center in Clarksville, TN of natural causes.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2013 at St. John United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Dr. Neil Salvaterra and Rev. Dr. Howard Willen with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be George Wilson, Michael Pape, Col. Bob Freeman, Jerry Primm, Rob Freeman and John Rittenhouse.

Hughart & Beard Funeral Home in Hopkinsville is in charge of arrangements.

A native of Hopkins Co., KY born July 11, 1924, he was the son of the late P.O. and Mabel Whitfield and was a Master Mason. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church. He worked for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad and its successor companies, the Seaboard System Railroad and CSX Corporation for 44 years.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mary "Jennie" Cunningham Whitfield, one son, First District Congressman Ed Whitfield and his wife Connie, one sister, Juanema Whitfield Corum and her husband Donald of Madisonville, one granddaughter, Kate Whitfield Wilson and her husband George, Duluth, Georgia, and two great-grandchildren; Brady and Madison Wilson, also of Duluth.
