Mr. Richard Thornton, age 64, of Mossy Head, Fla., passed away Aug. 23, 2006, at his residence. He was born Aug. 29, 1941, in Montgomery, Ala., to George and Willie Davis Thornton.

Mr. Thornton had been a resident of Mossy Head for the past 23 years. He was Baptist by faith. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Era having served two tours in Vietnam. He retired from the United States Air Force with 20 years of service as a staff sergeant. Having received an Air Force Commendation Medal, Outstanding Unit Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, and Longevity Service Award with four Oak Leaf Clusters.

Mr. Thornton was predeceased by his father and mother and one sister, Elaine Bray.

Mr. Thornton is survived by his wife of 33 years, Roberta M. Thornton of Mossy Head; three sons, Chris Thornton and wife Claudia of Fort Riley, Kan., Richard Bass and wife Doreen of Fort Gordon, Ga., and Joseph Bass and wife Heather of Prosperity, Fla.; four daughters, Cindy Thornton Mhire and husband Darrel of Lafayette, La., Tina Ward and husband Steven of Shreveport, La., Tonya Mc-Cain and husband John of Navarre, Fla., and Sonja Jane Brown of Mossy Head; one sister, Beverly Abbott of Woodstock, Ga.; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 25, 2006, at Clary-Glenn Funeral Home Chapel, 230 Park Avenue, DeFuniak Springs, Fla. 32435.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 26, 2006, at Crowder Chapel Cemetery, with military honors at graveside.

Floral arrangements are being accepted.
