Clarence “Champ” Carl Richter, 83, of Warda, Texas, passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2015 in La Grange.

He was born on April 6, 1932 to Richard and Anna (Vogel) Richter in Fedor, Texas. He was baptized on April 10, 1932 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fedor, Texas by Rev. A. F. Michalk. Champ was confirmed April 4, 1946 at Trinity in Fedor, Texas by Rev. Paul G. Brust.

Champ was drafted and served two years in the U.S. Army (1952-1954). Champ married Venettrice Pietsch on September 6, 1953 at Holy Cross Lutheran, Warda, TX.

Champ enjoyed good friends, good music along with good food and drink. He was a musician of many instruments, especially the accordion. Champ was a lifetime tinker and machinist, with many “Champ” inventions on the farm. Champ retired with Venettrice in 1992 to the farm in Warda after 36 years in Houston working as a machinist and then finally owning part of the machine shop business he worked at all those years. During his early retirement, he became a rancher and then later was involved with the Warda Investors Inc. in an effort to bring back the Warda Store. As partial owners, he and Venettrice, helped cook many meals for folks of the community.

Champ is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Venettrice Richter; one sister-in-law, Lillie Mae Richter of Austin Texas, one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Collin and Maryann Pietsch of Warda, Texas. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great nephews and many other relatives and many good friends.

Champ was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Anna (Vogel) Richter; four sisters and brothers-in-law: Frieda and Hugo Hartman, Ella and Alois Blazek, Lydia and Werner Dube, Ruth and Howard Kieschnick and one brother, Walther Richter.

Visitation will be held at Koenig & Strickland Funeral Home. Family will receive friends. Funeral Services will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 600 FM 1482, Warda, Texas. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Faith Lutheran High School of Central Texas, (payable to: Holy Cross Lutheran Church/Note: FLHS), P. O. Box 69, Warda, TX 78960; Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter, 240 Svoboda Lane, La Grange, TX 78945 or a charity of one’s choice.
