Marilyn McConnell passed away peacefully Nov. 9, 2015, at the age of 95.

Born in Davenport, Iowa, Marilyn was in her 20s when, during World War II, she met and married John W. “Jack” McConnell of Laramie. In the early years of their marriage, the McConnells lived in various cities but settled in Laramie to raise their son, Gary.

Marilyn was a career secretary working for private businesses until becoming employed by the University of Wyoming, in first the Registrar’s Office, then the music department. She is best remembered as Dr. Tomatz’s secretary, skilled in shorthand and being friendly with the graduate students.

Following retirement in 1985, Marilyn was a tireless volunteer for many years. During her life, she participated very actively in the following organizations, sometimes more than once as a president or leader: Business and Professional Women, Order of Eastern Star, Laramie Lanes Bowling Alley League, Farm Bureau, Lions/Lioness Club, American Legion, VFW Auxiliary, Moose Club, Rebekah Lodge, Laramie Women’s Club and Ivinson Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

As Gary’s mother and mother-in-law to Fran McConnell, she was dedicated to her family and never wavered from unconditional abiding love.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Fran McConnell of Coral Springs, Florida; and older sister Phyllis Carpenter of Peoria, Arizona.
