Jerry J. Burke, age 72, of Roaring Spring, died Monday morning at UPMC Altoona following a brief illness. He was born in Roaring Spring the son of the late William and Grace E. (Hawley) Burke. He was raised in Wood, PA. He married Betty L. Claar on November 30, 1963. He is survived by his wife; 2 sons, Jim Burke of Roaring Spring and Jay Burke and wife Lori of Martinsburg; 2 Granddaughters, Taylor and Macy, both of Martinsburg; a brother, William Burke and wife Dottie of Bel Air, MD a sister, Nancy Hrabowenski and husband Nick of Bellefonte, and a sister-in-law Mae Redinger of Everett. He was preceded in death by a brother, Terry. Jerry attended Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church. He attended Robertsdale High School, but was a 1960 gradate of Morrison Cove High School. He retired from Appleton Papers, Roaring Spring in December 2004 after 31 years of service. Jerry also owned and operated Burke’s Barber Shop for over 50 years. He enjoyed square dancing, gardening, and antique cars. He was a member of the Blair County Antique Auto Club and had also volunteered for Meals-On-Wheels and the I.O.O. F. Cemetery, Broad Top. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8PM Friday in the Martinsburg Grace Brethren Church, where a funeral service will be held at 11AM Saturday by Pastor Brian McCall. Interment will be made in Dry Hill Cemetery, Woodbury. Arrangements are by the Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring. (www.thompsonfh.com)
