Darlene Delores Robinson, 75, of Aberdeen, passed away Monday, November 9, 2015, at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen.

Her memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 16, 2015, at Schriver’s Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, Aberdeen, with Father Michael Griffin officiating. Burial will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen.

Darlene Delores (Artz) Robinson was born on June 15, 1940, to John and Elizabeth (Hoppe) Artz in Lodi, CA. The family then made their way to South Dakota, where they lived on the farm and managed the Bowdle Café where Darlene worked. Darlene graduated from Bowdle High School with the Class of 1958.

She was united in marriage to Merle Bomesberger on January 24, 1959, in Bowdle, SD. The couple made their home in Aberdeen and raised two children.

Darlene went on to further her education at the Aberdeen School of Commerce and earned a business degree before being offered a position as Executive Assistant to the President of the school. Throughout her working career, Darlene was employed at Woolworth’s, the Internal Revenue Service, Aberdeen School of Commerce and North Central Harvestore, all in Aberdeen.

On June 18, 1997, Darlene married James Robinson, Sr. The couple resided in Colorado before returning to South Dakota and making their home in Aurora, SD. Darlene then began what would become an over 20-year career in the Graduate Office at South Dakota State University in Brookings, where she remained until the time of her retirement. After being widowed, Darlene met Charles Short from Aurora. He became, and remained, her loving companion and caregiver until the time of her death.

Darlene was an active member of St. William’s Catholic Church in Aurora. She enjoyed her home, gardening, cooking, baking, walking, and her pets.

Grateful to have shared in Darlene’s life is her son, Blake (Jennifer) Bomesberger and their children, Alexis and Evan Bomesberger and her daughter, Margo (Kevin) Bakke; and her siblings: Fran (Del) Aldinger, Bernard Artz, John (Janice) Artz and Elizabeth (Dennis) Doerr.

Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents: John and Elizabeth; and two sisters: Marion Weron and Lucille Nies.
