Melissa Jane Doty was born near Dayton, Ohio on January 4, 1854 and died at Newell, South Dakota on August 11, 1930. At the age of twelve years, she came to Missouri with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elisha Doty, and located on a farm in Sullivan County where she grew to womanhood. She was married to George C. Graham on December 29, 1875. They had the following children: Mrs. Elizabeth Foster of Newell, S.D., Mrs. Lenora Walker of Braymer, Ira G. Graham of Chillicothe, Mrs. Nettie Tompkins of Emporia, Kansas, R.V. Graham of Chillicothe and Mrs. Dottie Cox. Alice Graham died in 1904 and Roy Graham in 1918.
Mrs. Graham moved with her family to Chillicothe forty years ago and had made her home here since with the exception of a year and a half in South Dakota. Mr. Graham passed away March 18, 1914.
Mrs. Graham became converted and united with the Christian Church in early girlhood and for 35 years or more been a member of the church here. When she was able to attend she was always to be found in her place in church and Sunday school.
Besides her children, she us survived by twenty grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who sincerely mourn the passing of this good woman who was always ready to lend a helping hand." The Chillicothe Constitution Tribune, August 13, 1930
