Anne McKenzie Morton was the older of two daughters born to Robert Lee McKenzie and Louise Blandford Dixon. Robert McKenzie, was a founder of Panama City, Florida. Anne's sister was Roberta Ellen McKenzie Tutte. Anne and her aunt, Mary Elizabeth Dixon, who lived with the family at the McKenzie House (added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on August 21, 1986), Panama City, enjoyed each other's company during Anne's childhood. Anne excelled at music, playing the violin and piano. She taught for over 55 years at Bob Jones University, at which her father had been a founding board member (Mr. McKenzie also helped locate the first property of Bob Jones College on St. Andrew's Bay, Lynn Haven, Florida). Mr. and Mrs. Morton taught piano for three decades at the Interlochen Arts Camp, where they befriended students as well as well-known national and international professional musicians. Mrs. Morton is well-loved as the mentor of generations of piano students. She was a master at creative programming so that her students played a wide variety of piano literature, chosen uniquely for each pianist. Her training at the Julliard School, NYC, studies with Olga Samaroff, and the University of Southern California perfectly suited her to guide piano students throughout her long career. She was a performer and lecturer who stimulated excellence in teaching.

Mrs. Anne McKenzie Morton, retired member of the piano faculty, was honored this week with a reception at the home of Lance and Janet Flower. As a four-year-old, she was present at the groundbreaking ceremony for Bob Jones College in Florida, and the charter for the institution was signed in the living room of her family’s home in Panama City. She is the only surviving link to the founding of Bob Jones College.
Mrs. Morton is a 1945 graduate of BJC and faithfully served the Lord at BJU for more than 55 years. She will be moving to Indianapolis to be closer to her family.
We are grateful for her impact upon thousands of students through the years. Soli Deo Gloria!
