Nila L. Martin, 90, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:45 A.M., Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Du Quoin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Nila had been choir director at the First Christian Church for thirty-nine years. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin. She enjoyed music and spending time with her family. She was born April 4, 1925 at Du Quoin, IL, the daughter of William and Nina (Boll) Voice. She married Charles Bill Martin on February 20, 1945 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin and he preceded her in death on February 5, 2007. She is survived by two daughters - Jean Mercier and husband Al of Du Quoin and Nancy Martin Maxfield and special friend Thomas Carlow of Spring Hill, FL, one sister - Shirley Fithian and husband Gene of Newburgh, IN, five grandchildren - Curt Mercier and fiancé Marni and her son Trevor of Pekin, IL, Cindy Williams and husband Jeff of Du Quoin, Chad Todaro and wife Sue of Red Bud, IL, Charles Mercier and wife Shayne of Du Quoin and Brock Todaro and wife Michelle of Humble, TX, eight great grandchildren - Camdon Mercier of Du Quoin, Anthony Todaro of Humble, TX, Charley Mercier of Du Quoin, Caitlyn Williams of Du Quoin, Callie Todaro of Red Bud, IL, Claire Mercier of Hopedale, IL, Cibyl Mercier of Du Quoin and Cory Mercier of Hopedale, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister - Lola Palmer, brother - William Voice, sister - Martha Wilks, brother - Charles Voice and brother - Edward Voice. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 28, 2015 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin with Fr. Joseph Oganda officiating. Friends may call from 8 A.M. until 9:30 A.M., Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. A family eulogy will be conducted at 9:30 A.M., Saturday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Du Quoin. Friends may make memorials to Masses or Du Quoin High School Booster Club and will be accepted at the funeral home.
