Admiral Sir Edward Bridges Rice was born on 30 Oct 1819. He was Baptised the son of Edward Royds Rice and Elizabeth Knight at Godmersham St Lawrence Church on 23 Nov 1819. He entered the Navy in 1902 and had a distinguished career. He married Cecilia Caroline Harcourt, daughter of Reverend William Harcourt and Matilda Mary Gooch, on 18 Feb 1864. He was invested as a Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.). He also served as a Magistrate (J.P.) for Kent and Hampshire. He lived at Dane Court, Tilmanstone, Dover in Kent. He died on 30 Oct 1902 at age 83.
