US Congressman. A native of Osceola, Iowa, Thurston served in the Army during the Spanish-American War. Elected to represent Iowa's 5th and 8th Districts in the US House of Representatives, he served from 1925 to 1939. He also served as a Member of the Iowa State Senate from 1920 to 1924, and as a Candidate for United States Senator from Iowa, in 1938.
