""Coach"" Coy Smith, Attalla, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, at the age of 86. Funeral service will be at noon today at Morgan Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Ricky Smith will officiate the service. Graveside service and interment to follow at Ashville Cemetery. Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory directing.
Mr. Smith was a teacher and coach at Chandler Mountain Jr. High, Moody Jr. High, Odenville High School, Sylvania High School and Ashville High School. He worked tirelessly - a teacher, coach, bus driver and farmer. He loved working with young people, mentoring them and fostering their potential. A loving father, grandfather, teacher and friend - he loved going to basketball games and was cherished by his family and community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Vesta Smith; sister, Helen "June" Smith; and his beloved wife of 66 years, Betty Smith.
He leaves behind daughters, Sandra Burton (Keith), Smith Station, and Rebecca Dobuzinsky (Gerald), Clinton, Conn.; sons, Mike Smith (Donna) and Ted Smith, both of Ashville; sister, Jo Beason (Robert), Ashville; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Earl Newton, Weldon Parrish, Wes Burton, Greg Beason, Terry Minton, Rony Grass, Mark Washington and Bobby Benefield.
