Robert Joe (Bob) Lackey, 82, died Saturday, November 7, 2015, at Memorial Hospital in Bakersfield, CA, of natural causes.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years, Jane B. Lackey; his daughter, Dawn Lackey-Smith; his son, Robert Paul Lackey and his wife, Lisa Lackey; his daughter, MaryJane Lackey-Mills; his son, Timothy Lackey and his wife, Karyn Lackey; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many other close friends and relatives.
Born in Atwood, OK, on June 29, 1933, to Jake E. Lackey and Lydia Pratz Lackey, he moved to Kearney Park, CA, with his family when he was 3 years old. After graduating from Fresno High School in 1952, he met his wife and they married in 1954. Bob attended Fresno State University and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering in1966, then moved his family to Bakersfield, where he worked as a Civil Engineer for the County of Kern until his retirement in 1993.
Bob's hobbies included cabinet making, fishing, golf, and cards. He attended Daybreak Baptist church, where he served as a teacher and deacon, and was a member of the Shriners and Masonic Lodge.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 14, 2015, from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., with a chapel service at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Southwest Celebration of Life Center, 2739 Panama Lane.
