Addie was the daughter and youngest of nine children of Freeborn and Angeline (Gorton) Olmsted/Olmstead.

At the age of 64 she took a nasty fall on a sidewalk and either dislocated or broke her hip. With no one to care for her she entered the County Home in Angelica, Allegany County, NY. On March 14, 1923, in a tragic event, the County Home burned to the ground. She was among 7 women and 2 men who were cremated when fire sweep through the buildings. A memorial service for the victims was held at the Methodist Church in Angelica.
