Staff Sgt. Gregson G. Gourley of Salt Lake City, Utah was born to Jerome and Judy Murray Gourley and grew up in South Cottonwood and Sandy attending local schools and graduating from Hillcrest High School. He served an honorable LDS Mission in the Eastern Pennsylvania Mission. Upon returning, he attended Salt Lake Community College where he completed two associate degrees. He also became a licensed private investigator. While stationed in Louisiana he attended Northwestern State University and the University of Maryland while in Italy. Greg married his best friend and sweetheart, Collette Hansen on June 6, 1992 in the Salt Lake Temple. Their union has been blessed with four beautiful children, Austin, Brandon, Colton, and Alexa Layne. Greg was a gentle and loving husband, a devoted father and a genuine patriot. He held numerous Church positions, including serving in the presidency of his Elder's Quorum in the Hopkinsville, KY Ward. Following a family tradition of military service, Greg joined the Utah Army National Guard and served proudly with the 1457th Engr Bn. during Operation Desert Storm. Having a strong desire to serve with the regular army, he transferred into the Special Forces and completed his airborne training and enlisted in the Infantry Branch of the United States Army. Greg and Collette recently closed on their first home and were so very thrilled. During the initial invasion of Iraq, SSG Gourley served eleven months. His second tour of combat duty in Iraq began on January 22nd. Greg was the recipient of numerous military awards and citations, including the Meritorious Medal, Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star.
